BSI provides auditing, certification and training services for the Dutch HACCP Code.
Introduction
The Dutch HACCP Code is a technical specification which sets out the “Requirements for a HACCP based Food Safety System”. This provides a basis for compliance of a HACCP-based food safety system with international and national legislation and codes of practice within a management system framework.
This technical specification has been designed by the Dutch National Board of Experts, which is made up of government, enforcement and trade agencies, food retailers, food producers and processors, trade associations and consumer organizations.
The Global Food Safety Initiative, the organization of food retailers from around the world, has recognized this specification as meeting its criteria for HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) based food safety systems. Third party certification against this standard is seen by retailers as a means of providing confidence in the quality of food within their supply chains and meeting the expectations of consumers for safe food.
Adherence to this specification, especially when endorsed through external verification by a body such as BSI, is a powerful tool for organizations wishing to demonstrate to their customers that they are supplying food that is safe and meets legal requirements.
Who is it for?
Particularly suitable for suppliers, regardless of product or country of origin, that supply food products to the Dutch market.
Requirements include:
- Management responsibility.
- Product and process information.
- Pre-requisite programmes.
- Hazard analysis, control measures and corrective actions.
- Validation and verification.
- Documentation and records.
Benefits of adoption
There are clear benefits associated with certification to the Dutch HACCP Code.
- It conveys upon the supplier a degree of confidence required by major retailers and buyers within the food sector
- As a technical specification it is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative
- It provides buyers, consumers, and government enforcement and trade agencies with justified assurance that the management and control systems of the safety and legality of food are in place.
- It was developed by stakeholders in the food chain
- It includes comprehensive coverage of management responsibility, HACCP application and pre-requisite programme implementation
Above all, certification provides a third party endorsement of a corporate commitment to food safety best practice.
